The University of Chicago Charter School is a neighborhood charter school on the South Side of Chicago, operated by the University of Chicago Urban Education Institute. Comprised of three campuses spanning all grades from early childhood through high school, UChicago Charter is a PreK to 12 superhighway that empowers students to RISE to excellence at every level, cultivating critical thinkers and leaders for success in college and in life.
North Kenwood/Oakland, founded in 1998, educates children from prekindergarten to grade five. Donoghue, created in 2005, also serves children from prekindergarten to grade five. Woodlawn, established in 2006, educates students from grade six to grade twelve.
Job Summary:
The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for prevention, assessment, intervention, program design, data collection/analysis, and compliance of laws and regulations set for students with disabilities. The Speech Language Pathologist will also collaborate and consult with school staff and parents regarding interventions and supports for all UChicago Charter School students. This is a temporary, full-time position providing coverage for a maternity leave.
Principal Job Responsibilities:
- Provide therapeutic services for eligible students using a continuum of service delivery models; integrates speech program into school curriculum.
- Provide diagnostic assessment services to students using the established eligibility and exit criteria set by ASHA.
- Participate in required Domain, FIE, and Annual Review meetings as needed.
- Assist UChicago Charter School administration in developing policies and programs related to speech services; collaborates, communicates, and consults with school staff, teachers, and parents regarding procedures and best practices for students who require speech services.
- Complete compliance activities utilizing UChicago Charter School Impact database by accurately documenting weekly student progress, completing quarterly report cards, finalizing reports in a timely manner, and completing IEP’s in collaboration with designated team members; gather and interpret data for individuals and groups.
- Facilitate and participate in professional development activities.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the area of speech pathology/communication disorders is required. Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in LBS 1 and/or School Counselor (pre-Kindergarten through age 21) required. Illinois licensure must show a current registration date. Previous experience working with children ages 3 to 21 from culturally diverse backgrounds is required. Individuals should have experience serving students with a range of disorders and disabilities.
Applicants must be able to analyze and interpret test data, work collaboratively with a team of professionals, manage a maximum caseload of 60 students, and maintain accurate and timely records through UChicago Charter School Impact database. Applicants need strong written and verbal skills in order to effectively communicate the needs of students to teachers and parents.
