The Woodlawn Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006. The high school currently educates students in grades nine through twelve and assists students in the following:

Job Description Summary
The Athletic Aide I will maintain and set-up athletic facilities and department equipment for activities and events associated with the Athletics and Recreation Department.
Job Responsibilities:
- Set-up and take-down equipment for both indoor and outdoor activities and events. This includes setting up/taking down such items as fences, bleachers, benches, scoreboards, PA systems, windscreens, nets, goals, baskets, tables, chairs, lane lines, starting blocks, pole vault runways, high jump pads, wrestling mats, etc.
- Measure and paint field lines for activities using outdoor fields. Measure and tape court lines on indoor courts.
- Perform daily maintenance of the softball and baseball infields as well as the long jump/steeplechase pits. This includes dragging/scarifying infields, raking pitcher's mounds/bullpens/home plates/baselines/pits, watering, bailing water, installing plates, etc.
- Assemble, perform basic maintenance and troubleshoot problems with equipment. This includes assembling cabinets, ball carriers, carts, etc. Maintain basketball backboards, rims, batting cages, nets, goal nets, windscreens, etc. Inform supervisor of equipment repair needs.
- Operate department vehicles, including pick-up trucks, vans, field markers, and utility vehicles. As part of basic maintenance of these vehicles, perform general cleaning, check oil, fill window-washer fluid, monitor and adjust tire pressure, fill gas tank, grease exposed joints, etc. Inform supervisor of any problems associated with the vehicles.
- Clean fitness equipment. Distribute, collect and change hand towels used by patrons to clean fitness equipment. Distribute and fill the cleaning solution spray bottles used by patrons to clean fitness equipment. Inform supervisor of any problems with fitness equipment.
- Assist with departmental deliveries, including moving departmental items, and running departmental errands.
- Maintain and organize three workshops and multiple storage areas.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
This is a 12-month, part-time (working 10 - 15 hours per week. During football season, up to 20 hours per week)
Competencies:
- Must be literate and able to follow oral and written instructions
- Must be capable of communicating effectively with supervisor, students, staff, faculty and the public
Education, Experience, or Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Certifications:
- Valid Illinois driver’s license required
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
- Knowledge of athletic equipment care and maintenance techniques
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Must be capable of strenuous physical activity involving lifting up to 40 lbs. overhead, bending, reaching, climbing, standing for long periods, walking distances, working in inclement weather, etc.
- Significant overtime required (especially on weekends)
