The Woodlawn Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006. It
has a three-part mission: 1) to assist students in developing the habits of mind, work, and heart
to be successful in college and good citizens of their community; 2) to contribute to the community
through student research, service, and leadership; and 3) to improve teaching and learning by
serving as a site of professional development for teachers school leaders. Woodlawn High School
educates students in grades 9-12.


Position Summary:


Full-time, salaried teaching and post-secondary counselor position responsible for preparing
students, regardless of tested ability, for success in college. Responsibilities include a 50/50
split between a 12th grade post-secondary preparation course, and post-secondary academic
counseling. Post-Secondary Instruction includes analyzing and using formative assessment data to
improve instruction, designing &/or revising curriculum and assessments using the learning
standards of the University of Chicago Charter School, participating in professional development
activities; and enabling students to contribute to the community through the creation of new
knowledge. Post-Secondary Academic Guidance expectations include working closely with the UCW
College Graduation Office (CGO) to ensure successful transition of the senior class prior to
graduation, and engage with their families during the college application process.

 

Role responsibilities include:


? Planning for and executing a provided post-secondary curriculum and scope and sequence for 12th grade.
? Maintaining accurate records of student academic progress on a weekly basis.
? Participating in, and co-facilitating professional development (both in-house and external as assigned/offered).
? Maintaining cadence of coaching and collaboration meetings with your mentor &/or instructional coach.
? Supports with proctoring or monitoring high stakes assessments (i.e. ACT, SAT, PSAT, ISA, diagnostics, final exams, etc)
? Monitors and maintains accurate records (academic and completion) of student progress towards senior milestone tasks on

   a weekly basis (this also includes the letter of recommendation process)

? Following a provided post-secondary curriculum, along with scope and sequence, for a 12th

   grade college readiness course.

? Meet with a caseload of 20-25 seniors weekly to ensure completion of senior milestones.
? Supports with scheduling of admission officer visits from various colleges and universities.
? Support with additional CGO events, initiatives, and communication cadences (college tours,

  college fairs, college acceptance ceremonies, mock interviews, etc)

 

Position Qualifications:

 

Bachelor's Degree and at least 2 years of experience in education required. In addition, an Illinois
Professional Educator License (PEL) is required. Endorsements in high school content areas strongly
preferred.

 

Qualified applicants will be an excellent teacher with proven experience enabling urban student to
meet high expectations; reflective and receptive to providing and receiving professional feedback,
video-taping and coaching; collaborative, collegial, goal-oriented, mission-driven, accountable,
responsible, self-managed, and self-motivated and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
